Mogadishu is one of the oldest cities on the Indian Ocean coast, founded more than ten centuries ago and historically known to its own people as Hamar — the tamarind-coloured city. It is a place of carved wooden doors in the Hamarweyne quarter, of an Italian colonial Cathedral built in 1927 and modelled on Cefalù in Sicily, of fishing dhows lined up at the old harbour, and of a coast where the morning catch comes in just as the call to prayer rises across the water. This two-day weekend has been built for travellers who want to experience that texture without the commitment of a longer trip — a structured, calm, and culturally rich first visit that proves Somalia is more accessible than most outsiders assume.
From the moment your DS Travel team meets you inside Aden Adde International Airport, you are looked after end to end. A vetted 4×4 transfers you to a quality boutique hotel in a safe central area; your licensed Somali guide briefs you over coffee; and your itinerary unfolds in unhurried, daylight hours. You walk Hamarweyne with a heritage-trained guide, see the white-stone Lighthouse at Cape Curubo, watch fishing dhows return at the old harbour, and finish the first day with fresh seafood at Liido Beach as the sun softens over the water. The pace is deliberate. We are not trying to fit a week into a weekend; we are trying to give you the truest possible first taste of the city.
The next morning is reserved for the Bakaara market and one final coastal moment before our team escorts you back to the airport. Throughout, our security posture is calm and professional — licensed escorts, vetted vehicles, routes pre-cleared with the relevant authorities, and a 24/7 operations contact who is one WhatsApp message away. We do not lead with theatre. We lead with structure, safety, and authentic local insight, and we let Mogadishu do the rest of the work.
Quick-Scan Highlights — VIP airport meet-and-greet inside the arrivals hall; one night at a vetted boutique hotel in a central area; full-day guided walking tour of Hamarweyne, the Lighthouse at Cape Curubo, and the old harbour; fresh seafood lunch at Liido Beach with sunset views; second-day Bakaara Market visit; full Somali e-visa Letter of Invitation handled in-house; 24/7 DS Travel operations contact for the duration of your trip.
10:00 AM – Arrival at Aden Adde: Your DS Travel team meets you inside the arrivals hall, takes care of luggage, and walks you through the Green Zone fast-track to a private 4×4. The drive to your hotel takes around twenty minutes, and your guide gives a calm orientation briefing on the way: where you are, who is on your team for the trip, what the plan looks like, and how operations support is reached.
11:30 AM – Hotel Check-in & Welcome Coffee: A short check-in and a chance to refresh. Your guide joins you for a Somali shaah (sweet, cardamom-spiced tea) on the hotel terrace, talks you through what to expect today, and answers any questions about pace, photography, dress, and prayer-time logistics if relevant.
12:30 PM – Hamarweyne Heritage Walk: A guided walking tour of Mogadishu’s oldest quarter, where carved wooden doors (barasho) tell stories of the city’s Indian Ocean trading past. You see ten-century-old streets, the historic Arba Rukun Mosque (1269), and the layered colonial-era architecture along the corniche. Photo permissions are pre-arranged so you can shoot freely.
2:00 PM – Lighthouse at Cape Curubo: A short drive to the famous white-stone Mogadishu Lighthouse, built during Italian rule in the 1930s, perched on a coral outcrop above the Indian Ocean. This is one of the city’s most photographed landmarks and a classic first-day stop.
3:30 PM – Liido Beach Lunch: Late lunch at a long-established Liido Beach seafood restaurant. Fresh-grilled snapper or kingfish, Somali rice (bariis iskukaris), and watermelon juice. The pace is deliberately slow.
5:30 PM – Sunset on the Corniche: A walk along Liido as the sun softens. This is consistently the most photogenic hour in Mogadishu and the best moment to understand why the city was once called the White Pearl of the Indian Ocean.
7:00 PM – Return to Hotel & Dinner: Optional dinner at the hotel or at Karmel Restaurant on request. Early night recommended after a long travel day.
8:00 AM – Breakfast at the Hotel: Somali fry bread (anjero), fresh fruit, omelettes, and rich coffee. Your guide reviews the day and confirms departure logistics.
9:30 AM – Bakaara Market Walk: A short, well-paced walk through selected lanes of Bakaara, Somalia’s largest open-air market. Spice pyramids, fabrics, gold artisans, fresh produce — you will see the city’s commercial heart in motion. Your guide handles bargaining if you want to buy frankincense, Somali coffee, or a small textile keepsake.
11:00 AM – Coastal Drive & Photo Stop: A short coastal loop with one final photo stop on the corniche. A chance to take in the coastline before heading inland for the airport.
12:30 PM – Lunch at the Hotel: A relaxed lunch at the hotel before check-out. Time to repack and settle hotel extras.
2:00 PM – Transfer to Aden Adde: The drive to the airport with your guide and security escort. We allow plenty of time for the layered security checkpoints.
3:00 PM – Departure Assistance: Our team walks you through check-in, security, and to the boarding gate. Goodbyes are exchanged and we wait until your flight is in the air. Safar Wanaagsan.
